Never Be A Doubter When It Comes To Our Heavenly Father … His Goodness Overflows And Overtakes Us, All The Days Of Our Life

Belief in God is the beginning of building the foundation of faith … and confidence in all that faith is intended to provide is what brings the fulness of faith to us.

The writer of Hebrews makes it clear that this is what the “ancients” were commended for (Hebrews 11).

The life of faith is made richer when we begin to build commitment to both faith obedience and to faith expectation. Obedience is what brings us to faith, but it will always be expectation that takes our faith through.

There is a long list of things that can build faith expectancy but one of the classics is the promise of His blessing and favor over our lives.

Deuteronomy 28 opens with a great narrative of all that God had prepared for us. I am overwhelmed every time I read this passage.

The promise is that all of these blessings will not just come to us … they will, in fact, “overtake us”.

Never Be A Doubter When It Comes To Our Heavenly Father … His Goodness Overflows And Overtakes Us, All The Days Of Our Life

Andrew Toogood, in his article “Overtaken By Blessing”, speaks directly to this reality.

Deuteronomy 28:2, “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.”

“I’ve always been intrigued by this verse. I picture going about doing daily life, minding my own business, when all of a sudden God’s supernatural blessing just comes on me and overtakes me. To overtake means to come from behind and take over due to being greater, stronger, faster, superior. Note the blessing comes from behind, we are not chasing it, it is chasing us

We don’t seek God for what we can get, we seek God to get to know Him. When we put Him first, He ensures that all we need is added to us (Matthew 6:33). I’m not saying we don’t need to ask God for things, I’m saying we need to shift from a perspective of feeling like we are trying to convince Him to meet our needs to a perspective of being so blessed it’s impossible not to have our needs met.

Psalm 23:6 says, ‘Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life’, we’ve been hearing recently that this is not like some small dog timidly following us about but literally means that God’s goodness and mercy is aggressively hunting us down every day. Is it any wonder our cup overflows (v5)?”

Great insights and a clear validation of this truth …

Never Be A Doubter When It Comes To Our Heavenly Father … His Goodness Overflows And Overtakes Us All The Days Of Our Life

Jenn Johnson, who penned the song “Goodness of God” has clearly embraced this reality. She has stated that this song was inspired by the process of adopting her fourth child. She had been singing impromptu into her phone while driving on a long country road about the faithfulness and goodness of God. The song was then developed from the impromptu recording.

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God
(Lyrics) (Bethel Music)

My heart wants to shout, “AMEN”!

Let’s say yes to this!
