We Must Lay Our Lives Down Before We Can Live His Life Out!
There are common struggles that all of us endure.
As much as we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”, we are also “fragile and weak” and ensnared by commonly shared struggles.
If we each made a list of our top 5 spiritual challenges we would quickly realize that our lists would be frighteningly similar. We would prioritize them differently, the order of our lists would be different but our struggles … would be common.
I can assure you that one of the struggles that would appear on all of our lists would be the struggle with surrender.
Every generation has its own way of expressing this struggle.
An earlier generation sang, “I Surrender All” and while the melody and the words may seem antiquated to us now, I can assure you that they moved the hearts of those who first heard the song that Judson W. Van DeVenter wrote in 1896.
My generation was impacted by “He Is Lord, He Is Lord”, a song written by Marvin Frey.
Today’s generation sings other songs … but the cry of a heart longing for surrender remains the same.
We Must Lay Our Lives Down Before We Can Live His Life Out!
The reason why surrender is such a struggle is simple … it requires an absolute loss of ownership and control.
We are letting go, laying it all down and leaving personal will and ambition behind.
Literally, every piece of our life … both in the present and in our future, is completely and entirely in His hands, under His control and subject to His good will.
No wonder we battle so strongly here!
We Must Lay Our Lives Down Before We Can Live His Life Out!
This is why it matters so much!
As long as we hesitate, Satan will devastate!
We can not lift Christ up until we let Him rule over us. It is not a matter of less of me and more of Him. It is actually none of me and all of Him.
We have to stop before He will start. The reality is that until we go all in, we have not gone in at all!
There is no other way to give our greatest yes
There is no discussion or redefining to be done
There is no chance that anything else will do
We Must Lay Our Lives Down Before We Can Live His Life Out!
This is the rallying cry of the ages!
God calls out for this, our souls long for this … and our world waits for this!
So … with our hearts wide open and our lives laid down in total surrender … let’s go for it!
Really go for it … until we go all in, we have not gone in at all!
