In These Days Of Multiplied Sorrow … We Will Need Our Mighty Shelter

All of us, at one time or another have been overcome with sorrow.

It could be the result of a bitter dispute, a broken promise or a sense of betrayal. We experience disabling distress that leaves us with a feeling of soul devour. Though we had battled through in the past, we do come to moments where we simply cannot push through on our own.

We understand all too well what the Psalmist speaks of in Psalm 119, “my soul is weary with sorrow …”

It seems that too many of us are feeling the intrusion of “multiplied sorrow” and what we must know is this …

In These Days Of Multiplied Sorrow … We Will Need Our Mighty Shelter

The truth is that “multiplied sorrow” not only brings on profound fatigue, but it also provokes the possibility of failure. The hurt is deep, the walls of our souls have been compromised and we are at great risk.

While our desire would be “speedy recovery” the truth is that what we really need in these moments is to seek shelter in our God.

His strength will bring us renewal and restoration, so that we can be empowered and emboldened in every way.

This is the specific aim that Sarah Young advocates for in her article “In Times of Sorrow”

Come to Me and get to know Me in ever-increasing depth and breadth. You will find that I am indeed a Refuge — a safe place flooded with eternal Love. I know the pain and sorrow you are feeling, and I want you to pour out your heart in My Presence. You need to release all those emotions in a safe place. Demonstrate your trust in Me by opening your heart to Me; as you do so, I promise to keep you safe. Remember that I am a Man of sorrows, fully acquainted with grief.

Because of the unique realities that we have been living through … this is where we need to be and what we will need to do.

Sarah goes on to say this,
As you pour out your emotions in My Presence, your heavy burden grows lighter. You no longer carry your sorrows alone. You release them to Me, and I then relieve and refresh your soul. Moreover, as your heavy heart grows lighter, you are freed to learn more of Me: who I really am. Linger a while in My Presence, letting My Love soak into your soul.

Being willing to come to God in this way is so important for us, especially now. Our loving God provides perfect care for us and promises to give peace, perfect peace.
