Thanksgiving … Not A Fashionable Holiday Decision, This Is A Forever Heart Discipline!

I love the celebration of Thanksgiving.

For clarity, we know that it is a federal holiday, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Wikipedia reminds us that it originated as a harvest festival. Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by George Washington after a request by Congress.

Interestingly, (according to yahoo.com), “there are nine countries that celebrate a similar moment … Canada, China, Germany, Grenada, Japan, Norfolk Island, South Korea, Liberia, Vietnam.

While every holiday is exploited in one way or another, Thanksgiving has consistently remained focused on faith, family and food.

Faith to the degree that we do feel compelled to “count our blessings” and to become attentive to the enduring expressions of the grace and goodness of God.

Families gather, meals are shared and a certain degree of civility prevails. The holiday calls for this and we answer. We align ourselves to the anticipated behavior and do what is seemingly expected of us.

It is the fashionable thing to do … but here is the reality that we need to consider.

If all we do is to offer up a holiday decision … we miss the higher calling.

A 24 or 48-hour reprieve is not the real intent at all. It is not about the holiday decision … it is about the forever heart discipline.

It is not about us playing along, it is about us taking it on!

As we carefully read the scriptures, we come to know that thanksgiving should be what dominates our words, describes our witness and defines our walk.

This is powerful living and we are at our best when we can live like this!

It is the mandate that we have been given and it is the mission that has been spoken over us.

Achieving this can only happen when we move beyond the fashionable holiday decision and take on the task of making every effort to build a forever heart discipline.

This is what I am seeking for these days and I am aware that the task before me is a challenge … but the cost of missing this all together is truly too great.

I see it, I want to say yes and I want to start today to make this my reality.

I desire the same for all of you … so join me, will you?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING and let’s get started today on a new way of living!
