Showing That You Care Matters, More Than You Know … Be A Voice That Nurtures

The smallest gesture can often bring the greatest good … a sweet smile, a tender touch, a hug that heals … all have eternal and enduring value.

Our lives are made up of ordinary days.

We long for the mountain top experiences and we loath any time spent in the valley … but when it is all said and done … our lives are famously ordinary.

That being said, we do have the opportunity to do small, ordinary things that can become extraordinary.

Here is one such example …

All of us get to decide what kind of voice we will have … and while that may seem like a small thing, it is actually a pretty big deal.

You see … our words and our actions matter!

They have the potential to make a great difference, the possibility to turn things around and the power to change everything.

Over the last two weeks, I have heard some amazing stories of individuals and churches who made brave choices to … be a voice that nurtures.

I also read a great article entitled, “5 Ways to Nurture Compassion in Your Heart” by Rupen Das and Gordon King.

They tell the amazing story of a small Baptist church in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon who made a brave decision to show compassion to the Syrian refugees who poured into their country – desperate people who were fleeing the bloodshed and violence of their country.

What they were able to accomplish was stunning … and a clear example of

Their story was moving and this is the part of the article that captured me,

“This is not a formula or a template for church renewal. But the testimony of this Baptist church in Lebanon bears out the promise of Isaiah 58:7-9 where God’s word addresses the social needs in post-exile Israel.
The prophet compares pious public presentations of fasting with the authentic spirituality of feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless.

The concluding words are “Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: ‘Here am I.’”

All of us have similar opportunities … and we dare not miss them.

This is why I am advocating that we choose to … be a voice that nurtures

speaking hope is a far more noble thing than spewing hate
seeing hearts change always brings great joy
stirring confidence activates ambition
sowing seeds of kindness always has value
seeking to bless others opens many doors
standing with others is always a good thing

Never has this been as important as it is right now!

This is our moment to put our words and actions to work in the most positive and profitable kind of way.

I know that I am in … how about you?
