Spiritual stability is critical to our spiritual success … which is why we want to commit ourselves to “standing on His promises and staying strong”.
Perhaps the greatest foundational message that we see in the scriptures is the oft-repeated reminder that God is with us and that He is for us.
This message has been woven into fabric of both the Old & New Testaments. There are very clear words of promise spoken to us and we also see directive messages being given to the men and women of old.
Knowing that God is with us and that He is for us confirms that …
▪ we can fight and win our battles
▪ we can fashion a warrior’s heart
▪ we can finish strong
Standing On His Promises And Staying Strong … Now Everything Is Possible!
Lysa TerKeurst, in her article, “God Sees, God Knows, God Cares” references a very powerful passage of promise for us from the life of Asa, king of Judah.
There are great lessons here for us to learn.
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. You have done foolishly in this, for from now on you will have wars.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 (ESV)
The truth is that the faith of Asa in the past had brought great victory and yet he moves from that position to one where he literally invites battles into his future … all because he refuses to trust God in the present.
Lysa highlights two truths from 2 Chronicles 16 that will help us keep choosing to trust God, not just with our words but also with our actions:
1) God is not blind to our circumstances or our choices to trust Him
We serve a God who sees. He is an all-knowing, ever-present God who is continually aware of every detail of our lives. And not only is God aware, but He’s also looking to strengthen individuals who are willing to wholeheartedly place their trust in Him.
2) God has been faithful before, and He will be faithful again
Fear makes us forgetful. This is why we must purposefully look back and trace God’s hand of faithfulness in our lives. God’s faithfulness before assures us He will be faithful again. (Hebrews 10:35-36) We see this truth not only as we look back at our own lives, but also as we read the story of God’s faithfulness woven throughout all of Scripture.
He sees. He knows. He cares. We can rest assured.
Standing On His Promises And Staying Strong … Now Everything Is Possible!
This is not only a “preferred” position for us to assume … it is the only position where faith can flourish.
Everything is possible to those who will believe by faith and who will banish fear!
This is where we want to be … more than that, it is here that we want to stay!
Standing On His Promises And Staying Strong … Now Everything Is Possible!
I know that I am in … and you!
