Coping With Change … The Challenge Of Maintaining Our Consistency

There are specific life skills that we must take on .. and at the top of that list would be “coping with change”.

Change is at the core of almost everything we interact with in life.

People change, processes change, circumstances change, conditions change, opinions change, opportunities change, policies change, politics change … and this list goes on and on.

It is crystal clear that change is a constant companion … one that we will be dealing with for as long as we have life.

We can neither eliminate it, nor escape from it … our only option is to embrace it!

Coping With Change … The Challenge Of Maintaining Our Consistency
Here is something I have come to know … consistency counters change!

Consistency … engages our core beliefs, commitment, confidence and it empowers our character and covenant.

I love the example of Daniel … when he learned evil men had manipulated a change in the law, he confronted the change with consistency.

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. (Daniel 6:10)

What a moment for Daniel … he could not change the King’s decree so he confronted the change with consistency.

This simple act brought Daniel to a moment of great deliverance … and ultimately he rose to a place prominence and he prospered in the land.

Boyd Bailey, in his article, “Consistency Brings Blessing” says this, “When Daniel learned that the decree had been signed and posted, he continued to pray just as he had always done. His house had windows in the upstairs that opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he knelt there in prayer, thanking and praising his God. Consistent behavior brings the blessing of God and incurs the favor of man. Right living sounds an “amen” from your Savior. Indeed, it is better to constantly pray to Christ and receive clarity, than to stay confused with inconsistent intercession.”

Coping With Change … The Challenge Of Maintaining Our Consistency
In these times, this is what will bring needed change to our churches, communities, countries and cultures.

It is to this that we have been called. It is the one thing that we must resolve in our hearts.

There will be many voices clamoring for us to engage in other things … but I can assure you that they are truly, “lesser things”.

In chaotic times … consistency matters, in confusing times … consistency matters … in contested times … consistency matters!

Coping With Change … The Challenge Of Maintaining Our Consistency
This is our message, this is our mandate … and it is how we overcome these moments of change.

Will you join me in doing this … let’s step up and say yes!

I know that I am in … and you?
