As Far As It Depends On You, Live At Peace With Everyone … And Remember, It Always Depends On You!

I love Romans chapter 12.

These twenty-one (21) verses have been a source of direction for me since I came to know Christ. **

It was from these verses that I receive the correction I need to change my life, the counsel to shape a meaningful mission … and perhaps greatest of all, the continuing comfort I need to maintain my position in times of conflict or concern.

I linger here because I have learned that these practices, principles, and priorities need to be refreshed and renewed in me.

There are critical “anchor verses” in this chapter that speak so powerfully about faith development, spiritual engagement, and true life mastery.

The truth is, these are the things we need, to live honorably before God and man.

There is so much here for us … so do read this chapter again … and go there often.

Here is the word that is stirring in my heart just now, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18)

I love this language and the way it is presented to us.

The call is to live at peace with everyone, which is a daunting call/command for sure. While we certainly can not control the responses of others we can do our best to make peace possible.

Everything that has been written in the previous seventeen (17) verses becomes ours to embrace and emulate … and in doing so, we make peace possible.

So here is the reality that we need to hold on to and always keep in play …

As Far As It Depends On You, Live At Peace With Everyone … And Remember, It Always Depends On You!

Certainly, God will direct us and empower us, but in the end, He always works through His obedient sons and daughters.

We will be the ones to show up and to speak up. He employs us to deploy us!

So it will be us who will be called upon to …

▪ Build bridges
▪ Restore hope
▪ Forgive freely
▪ Love sincerely

As Far As It Depends On You, Live At Peace With Everyone … And Remember, It Always Depends On You!

I love this quote from Daryl Wingerd, “Though it may seem easier to take the monastic approach and just avoid the people of this world, that is not what we are called to do. You, the follower of Christ, must live and work and be neighborly and shine as lights, and all-the-while, as Paul says, if possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”

Now more than ever, we, who seek to please the heart of our God will need to take this on as our primary task.

We know that God will surely do His part … and then He will look to us to do our part!

As Far As It Depends On You, Live At Peace With Everyone … And Remember, It Always Depends On You!

Challenge given, challenge accepted … I am in, and you?
